A revolutionary innovation is happening in the gaming world. A startup called Etched presented a game concept produced and run entirely by artificial intelligence, without using traditional game engines. The game, developed in partnership with DecartAI and Etched, appears as a Minecraft clone in every way.

Artificial intelligence gaming experience without GPU

Etched, which develops ASICs specifically designed for the Transformer architecture that we are familiar with from generative artificial intelligence models such as GPT/Claude/Stable Diffusion, collaborated with Decart and performed a demo demonstration on a Minecraft copy. This artificial intelligence-supported game technology offers a real-time open world experience that instantly creates game physics, rules and graphics by taking players’ commands.
This model, called Oasis, creates an interactive game world in real time based on users’ input. Unlike other video-producing artificial intelligence, Oasis reacts in real time by processing each frame one by one. This allows users to naturally interact with objects in the virtual world. Elements such as structure, movement and physics are shaped according to user input.

It is also stated that the performance of the Oasis model has been greatly increased, thanks to Etched’s own developed accelerator cards called Sohu. A single Nvidia H100 GPU can run the Oasis model at 720p resolution and 20 frames per second. However, Etched’s eight Sohu cards can offer 65 Oasis games to 65 users at the same time. This means a performance increase of more than 10 times the capacity offered by Nvidia. In future plans, preparations are being made for larger models that have 100 billion parameters and can run at 4K 30 FPS.

Etched’s engineers are working on various technical improvements so that the AI model can handle longer and more complex simulations during gameplay. In this context, innovations such as adaptive noise processing and special calculation optimizations were added to the Oasis model.
