Quick Share, installed on most Android devices, is one of the best ways to share files between devices. The sharing service, which is also installed on Chromebooks, can also be easily installed on Windows computers. However, Quick Share is not available on iOS and macOS, so it is necessary to find other ways to share files between Android and iPhones. Fortunately, it looks like Google will be bringing Quick Share to macOS and iOS soon.Google introduced Quick Share (formerly Nearby Share) in 2020. The finding obtained by Android Authority may indicate that Google is trying to bring this feature to Apple devices. A Google engineer commented on the source code of the Nearby Connections API, which is available on GitHub and forms the basis of Quick Share, and stated that the bug fix will benefit Quick Share on iOS and macOS, and that Google is about to bring the feature to iOS and macOS. It’s also possible that Google is fixing this bug simply to lay the groundwork for future iOS and macOS clients that it hasn’t started working on yet, or simply fixing bugs it finds in Nearby Connections.
If Google is working on this feature, that’s really good news. Being able to share files between different platforms via a common platform is undoubtedly something that users would like. But even if Quick Share comes to Apple, it’s unlikely to become the default file sharing app. It will probably be used by downloading it from the App Store.
