As chip technologies develop, the performance and energy efficiency of information systems also improve. Today, chip technologies have become a battlefield. Especially the artificial intelligence storm seriously fuels this war. Technological developments do not come cheap at all.

Unbeatable for its price

When it comes to chip casting, the first company that comes to mind is TSMC, but there is another hero in the background. The casting machines produced by the Dutch company ASML have become unrivaled and indispensable in the sector.

In order to respond to developing technologies, ASML also develops its machines. The EUV machine, which can cast in the most advanced processes, which the company will put on sale at the end of the year, seems to have no rival in the world in terms of price.

ASML Twinscan EXE:5000 EUV casting machine has 8nm resolution and 13.5nm wavelength. In this way, chip designers will be able to cast designs that are 1.7 times smaller and contain 2.9 times more transistors. With this machine, we will see casting processes going below 2nm.

Of course, the ASML Twinscan EXE:5000 EUV casting machine spares no expense to offer these advantages. In this way, the cost of the machine increases to 350 million dollars. TSMC will be the first to access this machine and will receive it at the end of 2024.

It is reported that TSMC may switch to the 1.4nm production process with its new casting machine. The company’s estimated road map is 2027. Of course, such a cost increase will be reflected as a raise for chip designers. It is estimated that castings to be made in processes under 2nm will return to designers a price increase of nearly 2 times. This means a price increase for the end user.
