Google’s new file sharing feature, Quick Share, may soon make it easier to transfer files between Android and iPhone users. According to the new details, this feature, which currently only works on Android devices, Chromebooks and Windows systems, may also become available on Apple devices in the future.
At the Consumer Electronics Fair (CES) held in January, Google announced the Quick Share service developed in cooperation with Samsung. This new feature aimed to offer a solution similar to Apple’s AirDrop for Android users in terms of file sharing.
It is claimed that Quick Share can also be used on iPhones
The convenience offered by Quick Share has made file sharing more accessible, especially across different device ecosystems, but until now Quick Share was only available on Android-based devices. Now, it is claimed that the new details that have emerged will soon be available in the Apple ecosystem, thus making file sharing between Android and iPhones easier.
A recent post on GitHub by a Google engineer pointed out the possibility of adapting Quick Share to iPhone and Mac devices. The engineer referred to the localized device naming for iOS and macOS devices and stated that they think Quick Share can be used on these devices as well. Although no direct statement is made, these statements show that Google is considering Apple users within the scope of this feature.
On the Apple side, AirDrop, which has been used since 2011, is already a very popular and widespread solution. AirDrop, which was introduced to users with iOS 7, supports wireless file sharing between iPhone, iPad and Mac devices.
It is not yet clear when Quick Share will come to Apple devices or what the plans are in this regard, but we will be sharing possible developments with you.
