2024 has been a year in which artificial intelligence came to the fore in the smartphone world, and many companies are now seeking to further improve the user experience by adding productive artificial intelligence features to their devices.
New flagship phones such as Samsung Galaxy S24, Google Pixel 9 and Apple iPhone 16 also emerged as the pioneers of this change, but Google’s Android platform vice president Seang Chau thinks that artificial intelligence technology arouses mixed feelings among users. According to Chau, many people don’t want to hear about artificial intelligence. Users are interested in the benefits offered by artificial intelligence rather than the word artificial intelligence directly.
“Users want to see what it does instead of the term artificial intelligence”
Google attracted attention by using the word “artificial intelligence” more than 140 times at last year’s Google I/O event, but Chau thinks that there is nothing exciting about the word artificial intelligence anymore. Instead, he says, companies should promote features without using the word AI, as they do with features like Circle to Search.
According to Chau, the way to attract people’s attention is not to present artificial intelligence as just a “term” but to show how it directly benefits.
At a time when smartphone sales are in decline and people prefer to use their phones for longer periods of time, the potential of artificial intelligence to make phones attractive again is of great importance, but ensuring that users accept that artificial intelligence is so important is the most important issue that companies should focus on.
