The Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out an operation against a virtual betting gang the other day. In this operation, 22 people were detained. The information obtained revealed that the virtual betting gang has its own private banking system.
During the operation carried out by the Cyber Crimes Department, 96 phones, 90 SIM cards, 27 laptops, prohibited substances and unlicensed guns were also seized. However, what was more remarkable than all of these was the mechanism established by the virtual betting gang.
Shift workers created
According to Hürriyet’s report, the virtual betting gang rented some houses and turned them into offices. These offices had shift workers. These personnel, who worked like a bank officer, were called “on duty”. The guards managed the gang’s money flow system and identified incoming and outgoing money to bank accounts and phone numbers. With this definition, the money entering the system could be withdrawn as cash from ATMs.
