Protecting computers against the latest threats and viruses is no easy task; especially now that we’re spending more time online. . . The first thing to do is to use the right antivirus software.
This software can be either paid or a free option. Bitdefender also has a number of paid antivirus solutions and a free version called Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition to help users protect their computers. But now, an email the company sent to its customers explains that free antivirus support will be ending soon.
In the email, Bitdefender says that major changes in the security industry have upset many of its product development plans, and Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition has unfortunately been a victim of these changes.
From January 1, 2022, Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition will be officially discontinued and no longer available. Although Bitdefender has discontinued its free antivirus program, it will continue to offer technical support for the product until June 30 next year. This will give customers more than enough time to install an alternative antivirus solution to protect their devices.
For those who want to continue using Bitdefender’s antivirus protection, the company is also offering a promotion where free users will upgrade their subscription to Bitdefender Total Security. While a one-year subscription to the software normally costs 69.99 Euros, Free Edition users are offered a 5 device / 1-year subscription for 8.98 Euros. However, this offer is only available to free version users and will run until December 31st.
