Threads, which Instagram released in the summer months as a rival to X (Twitter), was increasing the number of users by introducing new features every day. We have previously seen that the platform brings features such as free post editing, GIF and survey sharing.

Instagram President Adam Mosseri announced that another much-requested feature is coming to Threads. There is now a hashtag feature called “tags” on the platform.

Special characters and spaces can be used in Threads’ hashtags

Threads’ hashtags are slightly different from the hashtags we see on other platforms. Users will be able to add tags using the “#” symbol when creating a post. But it won’t be limited to just one word. You will be able to write groups of words instead. There are also no other restrictions. Special characters can be used in labels and even spaces can be left.

However, tags can be maximum one for each post. This means you will not be able to add more than one tag to the post you will share. That’s why the platform recommends users use the hashtag that best represents what they’re sharing.

Threads’ new feature has the same purpose as other apps’ hashtags. Mosseri says that tags are a good way to interact with other people, adding that in this way, people who are interested in similar topics can be more easily reached.
