Recently, details have started to emerge about the battery currently being tested in the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE, and this information confirms previous findings about the device. The new iPhone SE 4, which will be similar to the iPhone 14 in terms of design, will have the exact same battery as the iPhone 14.

iPhone SE 4 battery will be exactly the same as iPhone 14

The ‌iPhone SE‌ 4, known by device identifier D59, is expected to use the exact same battery found in the base iPhone 14 model. Partially assembled prototypes of the next ‌iPhone SE‌ have been spotted equipped with lithium-ion batteries bearing the model number A2863, which, as you might expect, is an exact replica of the iPhone 14’s battery.

This battery, which Apple has already used in the past (Internal design documents also confirm this change), has an improved capacity compared to the current ‌iPhone SE‌ 3. While the battery used in the iPhone SE 3 has a capacity of 2018 mAh, this capacity in the iPhone 14 is 3279 mAh. So, if we look at capacity, there is a big difference between SE 3 and SE 4.

Along with other features of the iPhone SE 4, such as design, Apple has opted for the A2863 battery, a holdover from the ‌iPhone 14‌. Apple has allegedly developed entirely new batteries with improved thermal properties for the iPhone 16 Pro, while the fourth-generation ‌iPhone SE‌ will continue to use existing parts as a cost-cutting measure.

Developing new components for the iPhone SE‌ 4 will result in additional research and development costs for Apple; hence, using an existing battery will help keep the device relatively affordable compared to other iPhone models Apple offers.

This also aligns with Apple’s previous decisions regarding the ‌iPhone SE‌, as the second-generation ‌iPhone SE‌ uses the exact same battery as the older ‌iPhone‌ 8. In terms of other related upgrades, the fourth-generation ‌iPhone SE‌ will feature an iPhone 14-based design and will be equipped with an action button and USB-C port. These will be the details that make the device different from the iPhone 14.

However, we need to remind that the information given here is pre-production information. While prototype units of the ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 use the A2863 battery, Apple’s plans may change as the device is still far from launch.
