According to data from Jon Peddie Research company, GPU sales increased by 16.8% in the third quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. Sales, which fell for two years after COVID and hit the bottom, started to recover.The COVID-19 pandemic caused the demand for computers and graphics cards to explode. Later, as the pandemic began to end, sales gradually decreased and reached the bottom in the first quarter of 2023. However, the situation changed and sales increased for two consecutive quarters.
The data seen in the chart includes external and internal GPUs. The biggest increase was in the desktop graphics card segment. The increase rate was well above the average at 37.4%.
The biggest increase is in AMD
AMD, Nvidia and Intel all posted double-digit growth, but the biggest increase came from AMD. AMD’s sales increased by 36.6%. Nvidia managed to increase its sales by 25.2% and Intel by 10.4%. While AMD’s market share increased by 3%, Intel’s market share decreased by 4%. Still, in the GPU market, Intel remains at the top due to its internal GPUs integrated into the processor.Although the data looks positive, 2024 may not be the year of GPUs. The company states that the contractions in the PC market due to reasons such as COVID-19, crypto mining and the 2008 financial crisis have subsequently recovered, but sales as high as before should not be expected.
