In recent months, WhatsApp has introduced a feature that will be very useful for users regarding privacy. This feature called “Chat Lock” allowed us to lock the chats we wanted. To unlock, things like Face ID, password, fingerprint were required.
The giant messaging platform announced today that it has introduced an important innovation to the chat lock feature. This innovation will make locked chats more secure.
You will be able to add secret codes to locked chats
WhatsApp calls the new feature “secret code”. Secret codes, as you can understand from the name, allow you to add special codes that you create to locked chats. The platform describes the feature as “an additional way to protect locked chats and make them harder to find if someone has access to your phone or if you share your phone with someone else.”
Secret codes will add an additional layer of privacy to locked chats, independent of your phone’s own password. So, you will be able to use both this code and the security method you use when entering the chat. Thus, you will add a two-step layer of security.
You will also be able to hide the locked chats folder from the chat list. The secret code will allow you to access locked chats only from the search bar. When this code is searched, it will be possible to access the chats. From the screenshot, we can see that letters, numbers and even emojis can be used in the secret code.
The secret code feature started to be gradually rolled out today. So it may not have come to you yet. WhatsApp says it will be available globally in a few months.
