With the iPhone X, Apple stopped using Touch ID authentication technology in iPhone models. Since then, Apple has only used this technology on MacBooks and iPads. However, with the transition to Face ID technology in the latest iPad and MacBook models, Touch ID has been completely abandoned.

In fact, it was a hot topic that Apple might one day use an under-screen fingerprint sensor in iPhone models. According to the news, the chips used for Touch ID are no longer produced. In other words, Apple has completely given up on Touch ID technology.

Touch ID’s Chip Production Ends While Face ID Remains

Currently, among Apple’s new generation smartphones, it only offers Touch ID technology on the budget-friendly iPhone SE models. The news that Apple has stopped Touch ID chip production, in a sense, confirms the information that the new iPhone SE will come with the iPhone 14 design. We will probably see Face ID used in an ‘SE’ model for the first time in the new generation.

Moreover, Apple’s termination of Touch ID chip production may mean that we will see Face ID in all MacBook and iPad models to be released in the coming period. However, it is important to remember that this information has not been confirmed by Apple yet.
