New features continue to come to WhatsApp. The application, which has recently increased its security measures, first introduced two-factor authentication. Now an extra security measure has been added; Users will now be able to add email addresses to their accounts.
This feature was first available for WhatsApp beta users on iOS a few weeks ago and has now been rolled out to all iOS users. Predictably, the option to add email address to WhatsApp account has been added as an alternative to receive verification codes. Until now, WhatsApp would only send login codes via SMS or as a pop-up notification on an existing device logged into a WhatsApp account.
It is worth noting that email addresses do not replace phone numbers for logging in or creating a new account. This will be a backup method to use for verification if the first way to get the login codes doesn’t work. However, there is a possibility that WhatsApp will make this the primary login and account creation method in a future update to the application.
We should also note that the email address application is only available for iOS as of November 21, 2023. The Android version currently does not support email address verification in either the beta or stable version of WhatsApp.
