A major crisis erupted behind ChatGPT after OpenAI and its board fired the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, on Friday. After a succession of crises, today Microsoft announced that it has hired Sam Altman and the company’s former President Greg Brockman for its new artificial intelligence team. OpenAI hired former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as its new CEO. But the crisis is not over. Now the letter sent by OpenAI employees to the board of directors has emerged. The tone of the letter is heavy and openly threatening.

OpenAI employees: Resign or move to Microsoft

Journalist Kara Swisher accessed an internal document within the company and shared the letter in which 505 of OpenAI’s 700 employees called on the board of directors to resign. While the letter generally emphasizes the mistakes of the administration, the last paragraph is clearly an ultimatum. In this letter, which is the common knowledge of those who signed the letter, it is stated that 505 people can resign and join Microsoft. It is underlined that Microsoft has given “assurance” to all OpenAI employees for this transition.

The letter also states that resignations will be immediate unless the entire board resigns, appoints two new independent directors, Bret Taylor and Will Hurd, and reinstates Sam Altman and Greg Brockman. But as Altman and Brockman take the helm of Microsoft, we see that the board has already made its choice, deciding to stay in place and appoint a new CEO. Therefore, this letter may have appeared on Saturday. So Microsoft may be about to hire any OpenAI employee who wants one. OpenAI and ChatGPT are facing the loss of all the employees who made them.
