Discord users will not be able to chat with Clyde starting December 1. Discord announced that the chatbot will be “deactivated” at the end of the month, and after December 1, users will no longer be able to invoke Clyde in messages or server chats.

Discord first began testing Clyde’s AI features earlier this year, using OpenAI’s models to allow the chatbot to answer questions and chat with Discord users. It’s been in limited testing since then, and the company was planning to make it a core part of its chat and communities app.

It’s unclear why Clyde’s suddenly closed. It may be possible for the chatbot to return as a paid-only Nitro feature in the future. Perhaps Discord has learned enough from the testing period and decided that there is no need to include an AI Chatbot in its service. However, Discord insistently does not explain exactly why it was closed.

Discord product communications director Kellyn Slone said, “Clyde was an experiment shared with a small percentage of servers. Discord is constantly working to bring new features and experiences to users. Clyde was a fruit of this work, and we look forward to unlocking new user experiences in the future.” He made a statement as follows.
