WhatsApp is testing a new shortcut button to quickly launch the AI-powered chat feature in the instant messaging app. As spotted by WABetaInfo, this feature has appeared in version v2.23.24.26 of the WhatsApp Android beta, which is now available on Google Play.

The shortcut button that provides greater visibility into WhatsApp’s AI chat is currently rolling out to a limited number of testers. This button is located in the Chats tab above the new chat icon and provides quick access to AI-powered chats on WhatsApp.

To check if this feature is available on your device, you need to tap on the new chat icon > New AI Chat. Next, you need to accept the terms and conditions and then select the Meta AI or another character to whom the prompts will be given. In a WhatsApp group chat, you can type “@MetaAI” to launch the assistant and then type your query.

Meta announced its generative AI chatbot for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram in September this year. This chatbot is currently available in the US and only supports the English language. The bot can perform text-based interactions with users and can also create photorealistic images based on text prompts.

In addition to the Meta AI chatbot, the company is also working on 28 AI personalities. Popular celebrities and influencers like Snoop Dogg, Charli D’Amelio, MrBeast, Kendall Jenner, and Paris Hilton have partnered with Meta to animate and embody some of their AI personalities. The AI chatbot will be featured in Meta’s social media apps, as well as Ray-Ban sunglasses and the Quest 3 headset.

Microsoft, a leading supporter of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has formed a collaboration with Meta to integrate Bing Search into Meta AI’s chat features. The social media giant notes that AI personalities other than Meta AI, Bru, and Perry have largely accessed information that existed before 2023, so their answers may be outdated.
