Qualcomm, one of the leading players in the smartphone market, introduced its new processor Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The chipset that will power mid-range phones brings some new features to the table, including connectivity, performance, AI integration and multi-modal generative AI models. Let’s take a closer look at Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 introduced

Compared to the previous chipset, Qualcomm says Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 delivers 15% better performance and 20% more power efficiency. In the GPU department, there is a 50 percent performance increase. In addition, the Hexagon NPU accompanying the processor offers 60 percent higher performance per watt compared to SD Gen 1.

Every aspect of Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is designed with artificial intelligence in mind. So much so that Qualcomm says components are delivering innovations across the board to power AI. This has resulted in significant speed increases in generative AI capabilities, including creating stable Diffusion images from a text prompt.

As for technical details, SD 7 Gen 3 is based on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process and comes in 1+3+4 CPU configuration. At this stage, it has 3 2.4GHz performance cores, 4 1.8GHz efficiency cores and a 2.63GHz main core. Additionally, it is supported by Hexagon NPU and new generation Adreno GPU. We should also note that this GPU is compatible with OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.

In the camera department, the processor is accompanied by Qualcomm Spectra ISP, which offers up to 200MP main camera support and 4K 60Hz HDR video recording. In the connectivity section, preference was given to the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem, which provides download speeds of up to 5 Gbps over mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands. In this section, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards are not forgotten.

Finally, the new chipset supports up to 4K resolution at 60Hz refresh rate or FHD + resolution at 168Hz. The first devices with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 are expected to be released later this month. In this context, let us state that the first models will come from Honor and Vivo.
