The first performance figures for the internal GPUs of Intel’s new Meteor Lake mobile processors, which will be released soon, have been revealed. Arc GPUs show similar performance to AMD’s onboard graphics processor, the Radeon 780M.It was known that Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs would come with Alchemist architecture Arc graphics cores, which include significant improvements on the graphics side. According to the first results, the new GPU shows great improvement compared to the old UHD and Iris graphics cores.
Testing is performed on MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo with 16-core Core Ultra 7 155H CPU. The Arc graphics processor has 128 processing units and an operating frequency of 2250 Mhz. The TDP value of the processor is 28 Watts.
Performance close to GTX 1060
The GPU, which was put into the Geekbench 5 OpenCL test, managed to achieve 27,249 points. This value is a similar score to the Radeon 780M used in AMD’s current Phoenix APUs. The same graphics unit can score higher on AMD processors with higher TDP values, but the internal GPU of the Ryzen 7 7840U processor with a similar TDP value (15-30 Watts) is used for comparison purposes.
As can be seen in the graph, the performance of Intel Arc is quite close to the GTX 1060. It may even be possible for the performance to approach the GTX 1650 and RX 480 with more optimized drivers in the future. In fact, with the XeSS upscaling technology that Intel recently demoed, a performance increase of up to two times can be achieved in games. Thus, for the first time, we can see a smooth gaming experience on Intel processors without the need for an external GPU.
