YouTube is facing controversy after a highly explicit and pornographic ad appeared on its mobile feed, causing uproar among users. The ad, which attracted the attention of many people, was discovered by a Reddit user named u/vertuchi02.

Pornographic ad may have been placed deliberately to troll YouTube users

While this video shared by a Reddit user is considered highly suggestive, the user captured footage of the ad while scrolling through his mobile YouTube feed.

In the video, the user initially encounters a gaming streamer video in their feed. But when they move on to the next video, an ad for a so-called pet-centric social network called PetMeet appears. Despite the seemingly innocent content, the ad is overlaid with a high-definition pornographic video, making it clearly sexually explicit. The nature of the ad suggests it may have been created intentionally to shock or troll unsuspecting YouTube viewers.

Attempts to contact the company associated with the ad, PetMeet, revealed that it was likely a fake app. The company’s Terms of Service appear to be a shell, and the contact email provided is suspiciously listed as “[email protected]”. This discovery raises the possibility that the YouTube porn ad may have been specifically crafted to provoke a backlash and exploit the platform’s vulnerabilities.

Given the current controversy surrounding the proliferation of ads on YouTube and Google’s efforts to curb the use of ad blockers, this suggestive ad was intended as an attempt to troll Google’s ad system. This incident highlights the challenges platforms face in protecting the integrity of advertising content and the potential for malicious actors to exploit the system.

In the meantime, the incident serves as a cautionary reminder for users to be careful when browsing YouTube, especially if the platform is accessible to young children. The existence of such sexually explicit content also triggers concerns about the adequacy of YouTube’s ad screening processes and the need for stringent measures to ensure the safety of its diverse user base.
