Taking important steps in the truck world, Volvo Trucks introduced its second SuperTruck model, which is in the prototype stage. The model, called Volvo SuperTruck 2, is 134 percent more efficient than a standard truck introduced in 2009.

The new electric truck model was developed as part of the SuperTruck program launched by the US Department of Energy in 2016. Classified as a heavy-duty truck, SuperTruck 2 aims to push the limits of its efficiency.
Tests show that SuperTruck 2 provides 134 percent more fuel efficiency than the standard model in 2009. Volvo covered the windshield with the cabin to reduce drag, while the trailer design was developed into a boat tail. It was stated that thanks to these changes, friction was reduced by half.
It was stated that the new model also provides twice the energy efficiency compared to the first version introduced in 2018. Weight savings were also achieved due to the need for less material, such as a composite drive shaft and fewer axles.
The 48-volt hybrid system opens the door for drivers to use various accessories without running the engine at idle. In its statement on the subject, Volvo said that they tested SuperTruck 2 in traffic and different terrain conditions with a load of 30 thousand kg.
The second model of SuperTruck will be exhibited at the American Trucking Associations conference to be held this month. More information about both the engine and the design will be shared during the event.
