World-famous technology company Apple introduced its virtual reality glasses at the “Apple Worldwide Developers Conference” event in June this year. According to Apple, thanks to Vision Pro, the digital environment and the real world merge, describing it as a “Spatial Computer”. Vision Pro, which is known to go on sale in early 2024, managed to gain competitors even though it was not yet on the market. One of them is Meta.

Meta aims to develop a product that is a sequel to the virtual reality glasses Quest 3, which will be available this week. It is thought that Meta, which wants to make a different entry into the VR world, will be inspired by Vision Pro in the AR glasses it will develop.

Meta’s AR glasses plans seem to have changed after the introduction of Vision Pro.

Meta aims to gain a solid foothold in the virtual reality glasses market. Although the Quest Pro and Quest 2 virtual reality glasses that the company had previously offered for sale were subject to various criticisms, it is now preparing to sell Quest 3. The pre-order price of Quest 3, which is available for pre-order, is set at $499.

However, the introduction of the Vision Pro seems to have spoiled things for the Meta. Meta’s AR glasses, which are planned to be introduced next year, will be available at a lower price than Vision Pro. Meta will do this by reducing the cost without adding a headset and control handle.

According to a Meta employee, the company has reached the level of fear of Apple.

Speaking to Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman stated that Meta has now reached the point of fearing Apple. This information belongs to someone working at Meta. The company’s plans for AR glasses have changed. He also says that the company’s move away from metadata and focus on AR glasses is a rebellion against Apple.

Meta’s Quest 3 is 15 percent less than the cost of Vision Pro and promises users a more comfortable use. However, the company aims to eliminate the headset and control arms in the future and control the AR glasses only with hand and eye movements.

Both companies show success in different fields. If Meta is to compete with Apple, it needs to make major investments in AR glasses.
