NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and two Russian cosmonauts completed their mission at the International Space Station (ISS). Thereupon, the space agency announced that Rubio and the two cosmonauts returned to Earth successfully.
Frank Rubio broke the record for the longest stay in space among American astronauts with 371 days spent in space. Rubio’s assignment was initially planned to be six months. But Rubio and the other astronauts were left with various emergencies.
In December, the coolant on the Soyuz spacecraft leaked, which the Russian space agency Roscosmos attributed to micrometeorite impacts. The temperature also increased due to the leak. Afterwards, this problem was solved.
Frank Rubio orbited the Earth 5,936 times during his time in space. In total, he traveled 157,412,306 miles. On the other hand, he also managed to witness 15 different spacecraft visiting the ISS.
The Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft, carrying astronauts and cosmonauts, landed with a parachute in the rural area of Jezkazgan, Kazakhstan, at 17.17 local time. Thus, Rubio managed to make world history with the record he broke.
