Artificial intelligence music is growing
Daniel Ek said that tools like auto-tune are good because they can enhance the music, but tools that imitate artists are not good. The Spotify boss also described a ‘controversial middle ground’ where AI is used to create music that is influenced by existing artists but does not directly imitate them.
When ChatGPT was released, one of the first uses people discovered was the ability to create verse lines in seconds. Tools like DALL-E can also create works of art with a simple command from the user. Similarly, there are tools that can create music. So allowing AI music on Spotify could probably be a smart move. The most important feature of Spotify is that it has a huge music library that can be accessed for free. If AI music becomes a significant niche in the industry, creators will be able to offer it through Spotify.
In the interview, Daniel Ek says that the topic of artificial intelligence in music will probably be discussed for many years. Some believe that AI is “emotionless” and automatic and cannot match human music. Some believe that this factor will disappear as technology improves. On the other hand, even as of now, AI music is essentially indistinguishable to most listeners. Music created by cloning the voices of artists further expands the range. However, this also raises a serious copyright issue.
