There is an interesting event on the agenda of the European media today. An Italian man tried to dodge paramedics with a fake arm to get a vaccination certificate without being vaccinated against the coronavirus, and thus made headlines when he was caught.
According to the news, the man in his 50s was reported to the police by paramedics after the incident in Biella, northwest of Italy.
The man filling out the consent form peeled off his shirt as the health worker prepared for the vaccine. The officer, on the other hand, became suspicious of the situation and asked him to take off the shirt. Trying to persuade the officer to turn a blind eye to the incident, the man hid his real arm inside his shirt. It was reported that he was charged with fraud.
“It would have been ludicrous if not tragic,” said Albert Cirio, head of the Piedmont regional government, adding that such an act was “unacceptable in the face of the sacrifice that the entire society has paid in terms of human life, social and economic cost during the pandemic.”
The fake silicone sleeve incident in Italy happened just before the country tightened the rules for people who have not yet been vaccinated. Since August, a Green Card has been required in the country since August to dine in restaurants, visit museums, cinemas, theaters and attend sporting events, showing that they are already coronavirus negative.
However, from 6 December, these activities will be done with a card that is only open to people who have been vaccinated or have recently been infected with Covid-19. The old card will be valid for businesses. So the unvaccinated person will be able to go to work with the test showing that it is negative.
- What is the Omicron variant; how dangerous is it?
The new restrictions, which were also the subject of protests across Italy, came to the fore after the fears of the new variant Omicron and the intensified Covid-19 cases in recent days. Italy was the first European country to be affected by the epidemic in early 2020, but is now doing better than most of its neighbors. On Thursday, 72 deaths and 16,800 new cases were reported in the previous 24 hours.
Almost 85% of 12-year-olds in the country have been vaccinated. This week, the additional dose option has been expanded to include all adults.
