HBO continues to work on the Game of Thrones brand. The US TV network was working on the House of the Dragon series and a Dunk and Egg short novel adaptation. According to rumors, three different Game of Thrones spin-off series were under development earlier.

After the finale of Game of Thrones, news of five spin-offs (sequel projects) came to tell about the prequel of the series.

One of the series, whose working name is 9 Voyages, is said to be the clearest idea among them, and it was thought that Rome creator Brune Heller would take over the helm of the series. Two other potential series, known as Flea Bottom and 10,000 Ships, have yet to have a name in the management.

One of the Side Stories Was Ended in 2019

HBO had ended another Game of Thrones side story in November 2019, so it was not possible to say anything definite for these projects already.

While the shooting was going on, there was a development that upset GoT audiences. HBO canceled the project after spending $30 million for the pilot episode.

Spin-Off Canceled

After the cancellation of the Game of Thrones spin-off with Naomi Watts, Max Borenstein, who undertook the script of the production, said, “The world of the series was very developed. The script and outline were ready. Also, its name was revealed. We did a lot of things.” had spoken.

“I Don’t Think The Original Series Lived Up To Its Promise”

Now, the money spent on the project, which made progress in the pilot part but was later canceled, came to the fore. “They spent $30 million on the script for the sequel to Game of Thrones,” WarnerMedia Chairman Bob Greenblatt said in an interview.

“When I saw part of the script, I said to HBO content executive Casey Bloys, ‘This isn’t working and I don’t think the original series has lived up to its promise,'” Greenblatt added.

“The Company Lost Too Much Discipline”

Greenblatt continued:

“Unfortunately we decided to pull the plug. There was tremendous pressure to get it right and I don’t think it’s going to work.”

Greenblatt also told Miller that HBO was “printing too much money” and that the company was “losing too much discipline.”

In a statement to Insider, HBO said:

“After careful consideration, we have decided not to continue with the Game of Thrones prequel Untitled. We thank Jane Goldman, SJ Clarkson, and the talented cast and crew for all their hard work and dedication.”

House of Dragon is Coming!

On the other hand, HBO has announced a separate series called ‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’, which will premiere in 2022. The first trailer of House of the Dragon, the pre-episode of Game of Thrones, has been published.

Set nearly 200 years before the original series, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen, descendants of the kings who ruled Westeros before Robert Barrateon took the throne.
