READING NOW Debatable decision from Google: Update support for the popular model is over!

Google has started the countdown for the Pixel 8 series, which it is preparing to introduce at the Made by Google event to be held on October 4. It is not yet clear how many years of software support phones that fall into the flagship category in terms of details such as technical features and design will receive. However, according to a recent development, the company will fall below expectations in terms of update support. Because the brand recently ended software support for a popular model. This raises questions in mind about the new flagship models.

It’s the end of the road for Google Pixel 4a

Recently, phone manufacturers such as Samsung have revised their policies regarding software support and decided to extend the support given especially to the newly released mid-range and flagship models. But apparently this is not the case for Google, at least for now.

The Pixel 4a model, which Google introduced to users in August 2020, lost update support after three years. It has become clear that the smartphone, which is not included in the Android 14 developer preview list, will no longer receive new versions. However, it is worth noting that if a serious security vulnerability is detected, they will receive updates even if they are no longer supported in terms of software.

To make a small comparison, Apple’s iPhone XR, introduced in 2018, has been receiving continuous software support for five years and has even started to experience the recently released iOS 17 version. Similarly, with its new policy, Samsung will offer uninterrupted update support for some of its new smartphones for five years.

So what do you think about this issue? Do you think it is the right decision for Google to withdraw support from smartphones? Don’t forget to share your opinions with us in the comments section!
