Galaxy S21 series users in selected countries will now be able to unlock their BMW using their phones. As promised earlier this year, Google is rolling out the digital car key feature for its Pixel 6 smartphones and Samsung Galaxy S21 series. As the name suggests, the digital car key solution allows customers to turn their phones into “digital car keys” for compatible vehicles.
Google’s digital car key feature works similarly to Samsung’s own digital key solution for select Galaxy devices in South Korea a few months ago. However, we cannot say that they are the same thing, even though they have a similar task. First off, Samsung’s solution is in Korea and is limited to the Genesis GV60 electric vehicle. The Google digital car key will be available in more countries and will work with compatible BMW models.
Google’s official announcement does not list compatible BMW cars or countries where the digital key is available. But when it comes to Samsung customers, Galaxy S21 owners are reportedly able to use the Google digital car key feature with compatible BMW models in Denmark, France, England, Italy, Spain, South Korea and the United States.
In addition to this new feature, Google announced that it has improved Android Auto with the auto-start feature. Android Auto will now run automatically whenever you connect your phone. In addition, Google has also confirmed that it is working on improvements to smart reply options and voice-based music searches for Android Auto. These features will be available in a future update. . .
