Chromebooks have had a rough year, especially with Google shelving its gaming Chromebook project last month. But the company is turning the tide with some good news, including extending Chromebook support from eight years to a total of 10 years. Looks like he decided to translate it.
According to a report by 9to5Google, all Chromebooks released starting in 2021 will receive updates “ten years after the platform launches.” Google also updated its Automatic Update Expiration (AUE) document to include the new information. The company says it will allow existing users to extend automatic updates to 10 years.
Google also shared that by bringing the adaptive charging feature to Chromebooks, it will ensure that the overall battery health remains at 80 percent for a long time. Many new phones, laptops, and tablets have begun to adopt adaptive charging because it allows batteries to last longer without charging to 100 percent all the time.
Adaptive charging will be available on all Chromebooks once the update is released. Google said it will also offer a charging limit option. Finally, there is an energy saving option that will increase battery life as a whole by reducing or turning off energy-intensive processes.
ChromeOS will automatically turn on this new energy-saving feature when the Chromebook’s battery reaches 20 percent, but you can also turn it on and off as you wish. All of this will likely be coming to Chromebooks in the coming months. Unfortunately, no definitive timeline is available at this time.
