With the new update, there are not as many additions to the emoji lineup as in previous versions. According to Emojipedia, the brand new emojis include a horizontally bobbing head, a vertically bobbing head, a phoenix, a lemon, a brown mushroom and a broken chain. There are also new emojis that represent different family sizes, and a few versions of emojis you may be familiar with that face different directions.

You can see the official accepted emojis on the Unicode Consortium website.

Unfortunately, it can sometimes take months for companies like Apple and Microsoft to add new emoji support to their software, so you may have to wait a while before you can leave a lemon emoji to your friends.

If you think an emoji is missing from the current series, you also have the chance to submit a suggestion for yourself. Click here to see the Unicode Consortium’s guidelines on how to submit your suggestion. Applications will reopen in April 2024.
