World-famous soft drink manufacturer Coca-Cola introduced its new limited edition carbonated drink. The packaging design and recipe of the drink called Y3000 were developed with the help of neural networks. The company positions this drink as the “first futuristic flavor” created through the collaboration of humans and artificial intelligence.

The aroma of Coca‑Cola Y3000 was revealed in two stages. First, the company’s researchers collected data on consumers’ taste preferences. This information was then processed by a system based on artificial intelligence. Coca-Cola has not made any statements about the taste of the new drink. It is only known that Y3000 will be released in two varieties: sugared and sugar-free.

The extraordinary packaging design symbolizing the bright future was also created with the help of artificial intelligence. It should be noted that the visual identity depicts the transformation and evolution of the liquid through changes in shape and color. Using a light-toned color palette of purple, magenta, and cyan on a silver background creates a futuristic feel.

Coca-Cola from the future

Coca-Cola senior director of global strategy Oana Vlad said the new project shows how neural networks can be used in the beverage industry. “We hope Coca-Cola will be as relevant and refreshing in the year 3000 as it is today, so we challenged ourselves to discover what a Coca-Cola from the future might taste like and what kinds of experiences it would unlock,” says the veteran executive.

A QR code was placed on the drink’s packaging, which can be used to access the Creations Hub service. The application in question will show the photos as if they were taken in the year 3000, with the help of neural networks. Coca‑Cola Y3000 will be available in limited quantities in markets in the US, Canada and China, as well as some countries in Europe and Africa.
