Naming a baby is a big and difficult decision as it will affect their whole life. When deciding on the name of their baby, parents usually prefer traditional names, names of family members or names that were popular at the time. We witness that character names in TV series and movies are also very popular and frequently preferred.
San Francisco-based online media company BabyCentre, which provides information to parents on pregnancy, birth and child development, has listed the most preferred names by scanning the preferred baby names in 2021. During the list study, which turned out to be the most popular boy name Mohammed and the girl name Olivia, it was seen that a baby in England was named Marvel character ‘Thanos’.
Marvel inspires parents looking for names
Looking at the work of BabyCentre, we can say that parents who are looking for names for their babies are often inspired by the Marvel series. Parents have named their babies after Marvel heroes Loki, Thor, and Sylvie before. Now a couple in England have named their baby after Marvel’s super villain Thanos. The fictional character Thanos, who appeared in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sarah Redshaw, UK Editor-in-Chief of BabyCentre, said: “We predict a rise in superhero names as Marvel and DC movies continue to dominate and inspire more parents to call their babies Thor, Thanos or Sylvie. ” said.
BabyCentre’s study also showed that eight percent of parents were unsure about how to call their baby even a week after they were born. And no matter how long it took to make a decision, it turns out that many parents — about 13 percent — regret their choice of name.
