Technology leaders will meet with US behind closed doors on artificial intelligence

It is known that the US government is working on a comprehensive artificial intelligence regulation. While US senators and lawmakers are making progress on the issue, technology leaders also want to be involved in the new artificial intelligence regulation and examine technological developments closely. In this context, it was reported that senior technology leaders will meet with US senators behind closed doors today.

Historic artificial intelligence meeting

Among those who will attend are Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Leaders of various artificial intelligence companies, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, will also attend the call. The meeting will be part of a major initiative by the United States to create an artificial intelligence law.

Before the meeting called “AI Insight Forums”, it was stated that lawmakers will focus on the risks of artificial intelligence technology in the fields of medicine, education and national security. The meeting will be one of the largest gatherings of US technology leaders in recent memory. The special meeting will be held in two sessions, each lasting two to three hours. More than 20 technology experts are expected to address senators during the sessions. Apart from those mentioned above, other technology leaders who will attend the meetings include Google CEO Sundar Pichai and the company’s former CEO Eric Schmidt, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna.

Technology leaders will express their opinions on many areas, from the risks of artificial intelligence to its licensing and its wide use in education and medicine. Additionally, leaders of non-governmental organizations will also be heard at the meetings.

The process will be difficult

Even those on any side of AI agree that regulation is essential. Despite this momentum, Congress faces an uphill battle to craft AI legislation. Historically, lawmakers have struggled to regulate emerging technologies, from the internet to social media.

As artificial intelligence advances rapidly, there is a shortage of experts on artificial intelligence in both the US Congress and other countries’ legislatures, forcing many members to learn more about the technology while simultaneously trying to regulate it. This situation makes the process difficult.
