Oppo and Sony’s LYTIA imaging sensor brand have announced a new strategic partnership that will bring dual-layer stacked Sony sensors to future Oppo flagships. Oppo promises that the new sensors will “unleash the next era of computational photography,” but does not say when we will see the first device with this new sensor.
Sony’s ExmorT IMX 888 stacked CMOS sensor with 2-layer transistor pixel technology was introduced in the Xperia 1 V earlier this year. Sony is developing two more sensors that use the stacked CMOS sensor design: IMX903 and IMX907 (You can find more information about these sensors here). In its new dual-layer stacked sensor design, Sony collects the photo diodes into a separate layer. According to the company, more light can be captured thanks to this design. This provides better results in low light conditions.Sony’s LYTIA division announced a partnership with Vivo, another company of BBK Electronic Corporation, earlier this summer. Thanks to this partnership, Sony’s new CMOS sensors will be used in the Vivo X100 flagship series. The Vivo X100 series is expected to be introduced next month.
