Dutch smartphone company Fairphone has released its latest sustainably produced and repairable phone. Fairphone 5, like previous models, is easily repairable and offers long software support. With this model, Fairphone further raises the bar for software updates for the industry. FairPhone 5 modular phone will receive five Android upgrades, eight years of security updates. The company’s goal is to provide software support for eight to ten years. The company says that this software update commitment is possible thanks to the processor used. The phone is equipped with Qualcomm QCM6490, a processor specifically for industrial applications. This processor, which goes through the 6nm production process, is a variant of the Snapdragon 778G chipset. Snapdragon 750G was used in the previous model.

Fairphone 5 offers ten separate interchangeable modules, including camera, SIM slot, microSD card slot. These modules can be purchased from the Fairphone website or from distributors.

As for the specifications, FairPhone 5 has an OLED display that offers 6.46 inches, 2770×1224 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate. The phone comes with 8GB RAM 256GB storage (expandable up to 2TB). 4200 mAh battery supports 30w wired charging. Fairphone says the battery maintains its capacity for 1000 charging cycles. 50MP IMX800 primary with OIS, 50MP IMX858 ultra-wide lens with autofocus make up the rear camera setup of the phone. There is also a 50MP camera on the front.

The phone, which has a fingerprint reader on the side, comes with Android 13. According to Fairphone’s statement, an alternative operating system can also be installed.
