Qualcomm, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, has made a move that will excite players. The company announced a new processor series called “Snapdragon G” at an event it held today. Qualcomm’s new processors are specially produced for handheld game consoles. The new processors, called Snapdragon G1 Gen 1, Snapdragon G2 Gen1, and Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, seem to have the potential to change the balance in the video game industry.

If the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 name sounds familiar, you’re right. The handheld console, which Razer called “Edge 5G”, was powered by the Snapdragon G3x Gen1 processor. Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 is a more advanced version of the aforementioned processor. Promising impressive features, the processor can allow even the heaviest games to be played on portable devices. Let’s take a closer look at both this processor and other models in the series.

Ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 and more…

The Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 is the most powerful handheld processor Qualcomm has ever produced. The 8-core Kryo CPU structure in the processor made the new model 30 percent faster than the old one. The Adreno A32 GPU integrated into the processor was able to double the graphics performance of the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. On the other hand; Technologies such as ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 and 5G will also be available on consoles powered by this processor. Meanwhile; When console manufacturers choose this processor, they will be able to use technologies such as FHD + resolution 144 fps display panels, haptic feedback and PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

The Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 is a processor focused on affordable handheld consoles. The processor, which includes an 8-core Kyro CPU and Adreno A11 GPU, can be used with 60 fps display panels in FHD resolution. Technologies such as Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi 5 will also welcome us in this processor. Hardware manufacturers will be targeting low-budget players with this processor.

When we look at the Snapdragon G2 Gen1 processor, we see that the focus is on handheld consoles in the middle segment. This processor, which also works with an 8-core Kyro CPU, has Adreno A21 GPU. The processor, which will support consoles equipped with FHD + 144 Hz display panels, will also offer Wi-Fi 6-6E, and 5G support in addition to Bluetooth 5. According to Qualcomm’s statement, we will see handheld consoles equipped with these processors on the market towards the end of 2023.
