Google periodically scans and removes potentially dangerous apps from the Play Store. Recently, several Android cleaners have been removed, including SD Maid, which has over 10 million downloads. So, why were these apps removed?

Android cleaner apps removed

It was stated that the SD Maid application was removed on the grounds that it violated Google’s Stalkerware policy. However, the developer claims that there is no feature to spy on user privacy and data. Even SD Maid’s source code is publicly available on GitHub. The exact reason for termination; Google detects a high risk or abusive pattern in the developer’s account and takes action pursuant to Section 8.3/10.3 of the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement.

Most app developers point to the same reason behind Google’s removal of Android cleaner apps. In the meantime, if it is not disclosed for exactly what purpose Android applications are used, Google includes these applications in the scope of “misleading behavior”.
