Russia has been working hard for a long time to reach the Moon after 47 years. Bad news came to Russia, which was planned to be made with the European Space Agency, but carried out the mission alone due to the agreement that broke down after the Ukraine war.

The Luna-25 spacecraft left its orbit and crashed on the Moon.

The Russian Federal Space Agency has scheduled the Luna-25 spacecraft to land on the Moon on August 21. However, the mission ended unexpectedly. Roscosmos announced that the Luna-25 spacecraft left its designated orbit and crashed onto the Moon’s surface.

The Space Agency stated that some miscalculations were made while putting the vehicle into orbit before landing on Saturday, and as a result, communication was cut off. The spacecraft crashed into the Moon’s surface soon after, and shattered into pieces. Roscosmos made the following statements in its statement;

During operation, an abnormal situation occurred at the automatic station that did not allow the maneuver to be carried out with the specified parameters. The vehicle entered an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist after colliding with the Moon’s surface.

Roscosmos launched the Luna-25 on 11 August with a Soyuz 2.1b rocket from the Vostochniy spaceport in Moscow. The vehicle, whose main task was to find a water source on the Moon, would also investigate the effect of space rays and electromagnetic emissions on the Moon.
