Sega acquires Angry Birds developer Rovio
For those who don’t know, Angry Birds, produced by Rovio, was the first mobile game to exceed 1 billion downloads. So much so that the game, which hosted 200 million monthly players at the beginning of 2014, appeared as a TV series and two feature films in its continuation. Today, it continues to be among the most well-known mobile games.
In a statement on the subject, Sega said, “We aim to leverage Rovio’s distinctive know-how in the live service mobile gaming operation to bring Sega’s existing and new games to the global mobile game market.” Based on this, we can say that the Japanese giant will expand its range of games in the mobile market.
Niketim Sega has ambitious mobile games such as Sonic and Football Manager Mobile today. It is currently unclear whether Rovio will continue to make Angry Birds games. On the other hand, we can also see Sega forming new franchises. However, we will have to wait a little longer to find out all this.
