Conflicting information has emerged recently about Intel’s next-generation Battlemage graphics architecture. The new information that has emerged while the company is manufacturing that it is shrinking its targets for Battlemage shows that this will not be the case. According to the statements, Intel Arc graphics cards with Battlemage architecture will target Nvidia RTX 4080 level performance.

Intel Battlemage could come strong

The Battlemage architecture is a continuation of the existing Alchemist GPU architecture on Intel’s existing Arc graphics cards, including the A770 and A750. This architecture is expected to appear in general next year, but no exact date is available. However, the new images that have emerged show the interposer interface of a Battlemage-based GPU. Interposer is an interface that provides the connection between the socket and the GPU.
The thing is, the Battlemage GPU’s interposer is larger than Alchemist’s equivalent. Now, that alone doesn’t directly say anything about the die size of this top-performing Battlemage GPU, but it does point to a physical size increase. About 2.5 percent larger, Battlemage will be built on TSMC’s N4 process, which is the same one Nvidia uses in its RTX 40 series cards. Putting all this information together, the next generation Intel Arc series shows strong signs, both in the manufacturing process, architecture and heart size increase.

While the shrinking production architecture and current information indicate that there may be almost twice as many transitors for the Battlemage GPU, it is still too early to say anything about gaming performance. But for Intel, the potential for Battlemage seems to be growing. In our previous news, we mentioned that AMD may not offer a high-end model in the new generation RDNA 4 cards. If that happens, the mainstream could become a more competitive place.
