Google has started to take great measures about health content, especially during and after the COVID-19 process. One of these measures aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation was the listing of content from verified healthcare professionals, which was implemented on YouTube last year.
However, these features continue to be increased regularly. YouTube has finally started to hit some content created for cancer today.
Cancer treatment content that contains false/unconfirmed information is removed:
The platform started to take a new action today. Content that “shows cancer treatments that have proven harmful or ineffective” or that “dissuades viewers from seeking professional medical treatment” will be removed, the official statement said.
With the new application, content that recommends vitamin C supplements instead of radiotherapy against cancer or content with the title “garlic destroys cancer” will no longer be on YouTube. The platform started removing videos from today and will ramp up the app in the coming weeks.
