SK hynix’s LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo) product has completed performance verification to be applied to MediaTek’s next generation mobile solutions. Developed in January 2023, LPDDR5T was recorded as the world’s fastest mobile DRAM, reaching an operating speed of 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps). According to the manufacturer, the new memory promises 13 percent faster speeds than the previous standard.

SK Hynix LPDDR5T is the fastest in the world

It has also been confirmed that the LPDDR5T, whose performance verification has been completed, will be found on a flagship MediaTek chipset. Although it is not specified which chip it will be, the Dimensity 9300 is seen as the most suitable candidate. JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit at MediaTek, says the updated architecture of the LPDDR5T will offer several advantages in a variety of applications. “LPDDR5T will enable future devices to unlock an unprecedented level of mobile performance.”

Samsung, the world leader in memory production, previously held the record for producing the world’s fastest DRAM with an operating speed of 8.5Gbps. However, this record was for the LPDDR5X standard, so we can say that Samsung fell behind in the first step. However, as impressive as the overall bandwidth of the new memory standard is, there has been no talk of power efficiency.

Additionally, the semiconductor industry has previously predicted that operating speeds of up to 9.6 Gbps can only be achieved with future iterations such as LPDDR6, which is scheduled for release after 2026. SK hynix seems to have managed to speed up this timeline significantly with the LPDDR5T. Smartphones with LPDDR5T memory are expected to come with Dimensity 9300. It is assumed that phones using this chip will be introduced correctly at the end of the year.
