Google’s very popular free e-mail service worldwide, Gmail, has long had a translation feature that has been very useful to users. With support for more than 100 languages, this feature was able to automatically translate by detecting languages.

However, Gmail’s translation feature was exclusive to desktop only. So it wasn’t in the apps. Google announced today that it will finally fix this shortcoming.

Translation feature has also come to Gmail apps on Android and iOS

The technology giant said in a statement yesterday that it has brought the translation, which it describes as “highly desired”, to mobile applications. You can now access this feature from iOS and Android apps and automatically translate messages. Previously, to do this, you had to copy content and upload it to services like Google Translate.

Google also shared images of how the feature will work on mobile devices. To translate messages, users will need to press the three dots in the upper right corner of an email and click the “Translate” button.

The translation feature in Gmail apps will be rolled out to Android users gradually over the next two weeks. It will launch for iOS on August 21.
