With the transformation of Twitter into X, new ones are added to the saga of confusion every day. Elon Musk abruptly rebranded Twitter as X a few days ago, replacing the iconic bird logo with a logo as basic as its new name. At the same time, retweets began to be called reposts, though not all over the app.
Some users, on the other hand, were not happy to lose the Twitter bird they know very well. In fact, none of this is really important to users and you can’t do anything about it (other than filing your complaint online and deciding whether or not to use the app). Musk has the ability and opportunity to torment Twitter, which he owns for $44 billion, as he pleases.
If you still have an iPhone and care about the Twitter bird, moreover, if you don’t really like the X, there are some ways you can stick with the old Twitter logo.
To keep your iPhone’s Twitter logo and app name unchanged, the simplest thing you can do – and we wouldn’t recommend – is to avoid updating your app. If you regularly check for app updates, as you should, and install the newest versions as soon as they’re released, you’ve probably missed that chance by now. Twitter is now listed as X in the App Store, and the name and logo of the app has changed to an X.
The main problem with not updating the app is that you will miss the new X features when they are released. You will also be weak in terms of security. You should always install the latest application versions and operating system updates to ensure you are running the latest security fixes, if available.
iPhones with old Twitter are on sale
There is another way, which is expensive and absolutely unnecessary. Some people sell their old Twitter iPhones online for thousands of dollars. A few auctions on eBay went up to $25,000, which we can safely say is unbelievable and pointless. Whatever you do, it’s definitely not a wise decision to buy an old iPhone running the old Twitter app. Not only can you spend money on an old device, but you can’t update the app to keep the logo for the reasons explained above. This basically means you just spend your money and get almost nothing as a result.
The most logical way to return to the Twitter bird
There’s another way to get the old Twitter logo back on your iPhone that doesn’t waste money or stop updates, and it might be your best bet. Apple allowed customization of app icons with an option they made possible a long time ago. Maybe you remember a time on social media when users used the Shortcuts app to change app icons, sharing iPhone customizations that went far beyond wallpaper.
Thanks to this option, you can bring back the bird that Elon Musk “missed” on your iPhone. In addition, with this change, you will not be deprived of new X updates.
Here’s what you need to do to replace the X app icon with the classic Twitter logo in just a few steps:
1- Open the Shortcuts app.
2- Tap the + button in the upper right corner.
3- Look for the Open Application shortcut.
4- Tap on App option that appears and swipe for X app.
5- Tap the down arrow at the top to open a menu.
6- Select Add to Home Screen, then tap the icon in the Home Screen Name and Icon field.
7- Tap Select Photo and choose a Twitter logo you have acquired.
8- Also, tap on the app name and replace New Shortcut with Twitter name.
9- Tap Add to add it to the home screen.
The only problem with this method is that you will now have two Twitter app icons on your iPhone. One of them will be the regular X application, and the other will be the shortcut you created. While moving the Twitter shortcut you created to the desired location on your iPhone home screen, you can hide the X application with the new and boring logo in a hidden corner…
