Musk wants Apple to bend the rules
Currently, Apple takes a 30 percent share of all in-app purchases on iOS, including subscriptions that creators sell via Twitter or X. Musk says he wants to change that so Apple only takes a 30 percent commission on the portion of the payment held by Twitter.
Musk added that Twitter has also changed the way it cuts out content from creators. Musk says that instead of receiving 10 percent of subscription revenue from creators after 12 months, Twitter will only take 10 percent when payments exceed $100,000. Under this new model, Twitter will receive nothing from the revenue earned for the first 12 months.
Last year, Musk likened Apple’s fees to a “hidden 30% online tax” and delayed the launch of Twitter Blue on iOS to avoid paying Apple’s fees. Around the same time, Musk said that Apple had threatened to “remove” Twitter from the App Store, but that it was some kind of misunderstanding after visiting Cook at Apple’s headquarters. On the other hand, the most curious issue is will Apple really make the “discount” that Elon Musk mentioned? As it is known, Epic Games, Spotify and Netflix also complain about Apple’s high commission rate.
