READING NOW Electric cars face a new challenge!

Nowadays, when we say goodbye to internal combustion engines, electric vehicles are spreading rapidly. While the number of electric cars is increasing day by day, brands are also aiming to accelerate production. However, the increase in electric vehicle production also brings some problems.

Battery supply problem awaits electric cars

As it is known, the chip crisis, which has been experienced for a long time, has had a negative impact on the automobile industry as well as on all technological devices. While the chip crisis is slowly losing its effect, electric cars are faced with a new problem: the battery crisis.

While the production of electric cars is increasing day by day, brands have started to have difficulties in battery production and supply. Brands such as Ford, GM and Porsche also emphasized the problems experienced in battery production and cost problems in their second quarter results.

Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized the discount race initiated by Tesla and stated that this situation negatively affected them. Stating that they cannot make sufficient discounts for their electric vehicles because they do not have a production line like Tesla yet, the company emphasized that they have problems, especially due to the problems with the battery.

On the other hand, GM CEO Mary Barra states that they want to accelerate the production of electric vehicles, but they may not reach this target due to battery supply problems. The stoppage of production at the company’s facility in Canada is also attributed to the battery supply problem.

Porsche is among the brands that have battery supply problems for their electric cars. Stating that they have to solve the problems in battery supply in order to reach their targets this year, CEO Oliver Blume stated that battery companies are experiencing raw material and production capacity problems.

As the electric vehicle race between brands heats up, problems in the supply of vital raw materials for batteries and on production lines are expected to increase in the coming days.
