Today, WhatsApp has gone beyond being an instant messaging application and has become a social media application through WhatsApp Groups and Communities. However, this “sociability” can also lead to nauseating events from time to time.
Allegedly, an event that took place in Izmir recently showed how ugly WhatsApp groups can get. Belma Ateş, 53, learned that 38-year-old Volkan Y., whom she claims to be a friend of the shopkeeper, made ugly statements by sharing photos about herself in WhatsApp groups. Ateş saw the related posts and messages on the phones of different people in the same group and took screenshots, and took the matter to the judiciary.
He saw the ‘WhatsApp rumors’ about him by chance.
As you can see in the screenshots above, Ateş collected all the evidence regarding the incident and filed a complaint against Volkan Y. with these evidences. Ateş told DHA how he discovered what was written in the group and what happened afterwards.
Ateş states that he saw the correspondence in the WhatsApp group by chance. Ateş, who read the correspondence by asking for the phone of a different tradesman friend in the same group, expresses that he was astonished. Ateş’s statements on the subject are as follows:
“The result of a sick mentality. Why should I be ashamed to say it”
All posts are stuck ‘as a joke’
After Ateş brought the matter to the judiciary, an investigation was carried out and an indictment was prepared against Volkan Y. In the indictment, it was reported that the suspect shared photos of Belma Ateş in the WhatsApp group called ‘Live broadcast’ with comments such as “I think Belma sister sells them” and “The madness of them is running in a naked robe”.
After the preparation of the indictment, of course, Volkan Y.’s statement was also taken. Volkan Y. stated that the correspondence in question was “jokingly” and claimed that it was not made with any sexual nature or intention. On the other hand, the prosecutor demanded that Volkan Y. be imprisoned for up to 10 years on charges of insulting with a ‘chained’ written message and ‘disclosure of images related to private life in a chain fashion’.
Be careful who you write about on WhatsApp!
Whether it’s a group chat or one-on-one correspondence; Remember that any act that constitutes a crime in real life is also a crime on WhatsApp. These actions can come to the fore when you least expect it, causing you to end up in the court corridors. Of course, the problem here is not the possibility of WhatsApp correspondence being exposed, but the fact that you have committed criminal acts. Therefore, be careful who you write about and what you share…
