In the news on the internet over the weekend, it was claimed that Ubisoft would disable accounts that have not been used for a long time and delete all PC games associated with this account. Now, Ubisoft is doing damage control and says it won’t delete any accounts containing purchased games.
A Ubisoft spokesperson said in a statement that several things are taken into account before deleting an account:
- Gaming activity since account creation.
- Account’s libraries: Accounts are not eligible for deletion if they have PC games purchased.
- The period of account inactivity, i.e. the last date of login to the ecosystem (including Ubisoft games on Steam and other platforms).
According to the spokesperson; Accounts with less than 4 years of activity were never deleted. So your Ubisoft PC game library seems to be safe even if you haven’t logged into your account for a while. If you don’t have a game purchased and Ubisoft doesn’t see your account active for more than four years, it will suspend it.
Even if an account is suspended, Ubisoft says the publisher will send the owner three emails within a 30-day period offering to restore their account. So why go to the trouble of suspending or deleting inactive accounts? Ubisoft says this is due to rules set by the European Union’s GDPR.
