Hideo Kojima fans often have a question after the success of Metal Gear Solid: “Why isn’t Kojima making a movie as well?” And now that question has found an exciting answer. The giant name of the game world is establishing his own movie studio!
GamesIndustry. According to Biz, Kojima Productions has set up a dedicated division focused on music, TV and film to operate out of Los Angeles. Riley Russell, a former Sony Interactive executive, will lead the unit as it seeks to expand Kojima Productions’ cultural footprint.
“The new division will deal with television, music and film and bring together professionals for this purpose. The team’s goal is to further popularize popular products developed at Kojima Productions that are currently in development,” Russell said in a statement.
It’s not surprising to see Kojima Productions expand beyond games. Kojima is known for his movie-like approach to making games, and if you follow him on Twitter, you’ll know that he often tweets about his favorite albums and movies. The question now is how the studio plans to handle the expansion. Since the reform in 2015, Kojima Productions has released a single game. If you count the new Director’s Cut version of Death Stranding as a separate title, you can double that number.
