Things are not going well for Threads, which Meta markets as a rival platform to Twitter. Although new features are on the horizon for Threads, which is under the umbrella of Instagram, user participation and interaction continues to decrease significantly, especially due to the fact that administrators focus on options such as chronological flow.

Leafing on Threads

The number of daily active users on Threads fell for the second week in a row to 13 million, according to estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Although Threads peaked on July 7 in the number of active users, the current figure represents a 70 percent drop. The average time users spend on iOS and Android apps also fell from 19 minutes to 4 minutes. According to digital data and analytics company SimilarWeb, the average time spent for Android users in the US has dropped to 5 minutes from a peak of 21 minutes on launch day.

According to Sensor Tower’s estimations, Twitter’s number of daily active users remains stable at around 200 million, with an average time spent of 30 minutes per day.

Meta, on the other hand, stated that they expect an eventual drop after the app gained more than 100 million members within a week of its launch earlier this month, but they do not find this drop alarming and are working on additional features. Meta aims to increase the number of users and improve the experience before trying to monetize the platform. On the other hand, the decreasing interaction and the number of active users indicate that the situation is urgent.

There are countless missing

According to critics and experts, Threads offers nothing new compared to what other platforms offer. Moreover, it cannot provide its users even what other platforms offer. Some authors and commenters state that Threads, created using Instagram’s infrastructure, is boring for some users who choose to follow the people they follow on Instagram. On the other hand, the prevalence of brands in Threads is another issue that users complain about on the platform.

Meta is currently working on the shortcomings. Features promised by Adam Mosseri, head of Meta’s Instagram unit, include support for multiple accounts, the ability to edit posts, and a chronological feed option like those on Instagram and Facebook. In addition, direct messaging, topics, trends and agenda topics will be added to the platform as in Twitter. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said earlier this week that they focus on maintaining stability before focusing on growing the community.
