Google is reportedly testing an artificial intelligence tool that can generate news articles. The tool, called Genesis, is still in development and could potentially revolutionize the way news is created.
Genesis uses details of current events and other information to generate news text. Journalists are said to be able to use Genesis to help them write articles, giving them a chance to focus on other tasks like editing.
According to the NY Times report, Google presented Genesis to many major news organizations such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. It is stated that Genesis can produce “high-quality, fact-based news articles” at a fraction of the cost of traditional journalism.
“We are in the early stages of exploring ideas that have the potential to provide AI-enabled tools to assist journalists in their work, in collaboration with news publishers, particularly small publishers,” said Jenn Crider, a spokesperson for Google. For example, AI-enabled tools can assist reporters with headline options or different writing styles. Our goal is to give journalists the option to use these emerging technologies in ways that increase their work and productivity.”
However, there are also some concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in journalism. Some people worry that Genesis could lead to automation of journalism jobs and could also be used to spread misinformation.
It is stated that Google is committed to using Genesis responsibly. Genesis will be used to support human journalists, not replace them. In addition, the new AI will be subject to the same content standards as any other news article.
Previously, it was reported that Google will also use productive AI for ads and customer service. The company plans to use generative artificial intelligence to automate ads.
Genesis AI is still in testing and no official release date has been announced yet. It is too early to say how this technology will affect the future of journalism.
